Some updates


May you read this in the best of health.

Some short updates with pictures. But first...Last weekend brought me to a new place. For the 1st time in my life, I am living alone. And coming home to an empty house is no mean feat. Furthermore, had somekinda diarrhea on Tuesday, and had no choice but to call up a friend living some distance away for help with purchasing stuff from the chemist. But I hope things will change.

Ok, now for the pictures. There was this ex-Hollywood double who made it big after he left showbiz. Omar Reagen is known for Chris Tucker's double for the Rush Hours movies. But it is his current job of preaching that have brought more reward (& travels). Gave a short talk at Al-Khalil mosque approximately 3 weeks ago.

The following Friday, a mate of mine here brought his daughter for Friday prayers. And this was how cute she appeared,
Finally, helped a Singaporean family moved house on Saturday. Congratulations to Mr Nasir & family on the beautiful house overlooking Onkaparinga River in Noarlanga.


A bit of birthday celebration for the May & June babies. And now to call Mom :-)

Dirt tracks & country roads

May you read this well. Dad's been here for more than a month now, 'looking after' me and providing companionship to the gastro specialist. Appreciate the dishes he cooked (tried to), and with the household chores. But above all, it's fantastic to travel with a buddy who knows you very well. Which I have been doing so a lot this week. First it was at work; Roxby Down receive her water supply from the Great Artesian Basin . However, it has to be pumped almost 300 kilometres from the point of extraction. Thus, there are a few pumping stations dotting the supply line to keep the pressure and flow somewhat constant. And one of those stations decided to shut itself down early this week. Fortunately, this particular facility is located halfway to the start, near to the historic town (now almost desolated) of Marree . 21st Century literacy challenges

In this day and age of information, be it through mainstream news or otherwise, the ability to read and write does not suffice to block out false information nor half-truths. The ability to think critically, filter and comprehend a complete story requires a certain skillset. It is an important skill as the outcome of the process will shape a person's perception and draw the appropriate responses. Why is media literacy important 1. Democracy is central to processing information. Citizens need to think critically, express their views while participating in the entire democratic process. Informed decisions are based on these 3 qualities. 2. Print media, radio and television are no longer the only source of news. The internet has caused an explosion of information sources and our exposure to them is unavoidable.
