Unfailing loyalty; the trap of democracy among the impoverished

May you read this in the best of health, more so than ever now. Thought I'd pen this short write-up. Been wanting to do so for a very long time, especially with what has happened to a few democracies these past few years. Observe that in some nations, poverty has been successfully tackled. No nation can claim to have eradicated them completely, but many of the world's population has been brought out of destitution and empowered to participate in nation-building. I for once grew up in a country that turned first-world in a record time and have witnessed families who flourished in wealth and opportunities, given the right policies and mandate. But for those still in the midst of their struggle, affording cash handouts evoke a certain kind of loyalty to their paymasters that sometime detriments democratic principles.
